There is a direct link between domestic abuse and animal cruelty. Today Psychologists and the police force is consulted over domestic abuse and animal cruelty. Animal abuse is often the first sign of serious disturbances among adolescents some of whom grow up into adulthood with serious issues and mental problems and turned them into Serial killers (70%) where they committed repeated animal cruelty where they abused and tortured animals. Some of them turn to bestiality, such is the case with a 63-year-old man in Neillsville, Wisconsin where he raped calves. These men often go on to commit sex crimes against humans and homosexual acts as well.
We need to watch our children closely and stop any kind of repetitive abuse against animals. A young child is curious, they may pull dogs or a cats tail and laugh, but if they keep on doing this behavior it needs to be addressed by the parents that such actions are not acceptable. Tell your child that all animals are loved by God and they were not put here to torture or abuse. God put animals here for our joy and his glory.
There is a direct link between domestic abuse and animal cruelty and when a child grows up in a home that is far from perfect they will deal with their pain and anger in destructive ways such as torturing and abusing, or even by killing animals.
One important study was done in 1997 by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Northeastern University says that animal abusers are five times more likely to hurt other people.
Another study published in 2003 found that 43% of kids who were involved in school massacres also abused animals, mostly cats and dogs.
Phil Arkow, coordinator of the National Link Coalition a group of people with a focus on animal cruelty and domestic abuse says that animal abuse is an indication of domestic violence, or what he calls a “predictor crime.”
In 2017 a study was done and found that 89% of women who had a beloved cat or dog said that their pet was either threatened, harmed, or killed by their abusive partner. The abuser often does this to control them and is a form of emotional abuse to keep the victim there at home. There are a lot of victims who stayed out of fear of what would happen to their companion and best friend to protect them.
The Law Must Protect Animals and Punish Animal Abusers
Because of the strong link between animal cruelty and human violence they both need protection so we must make stricter laws for animal cruelty which leads to domestic violence and other kinds of crimes. The law is beginning to recognize the seriousness of animal cruelty and human violence, all 50 states now have animal cruelty laws and is now a felony to abuse, or torture animals.
Some states allow pets to be taken into protective custody with their owner who was abused. As of 2016 the FBI began following crimes against animals in the National Incident Based Report System (NIBRS), just like they track other serious criminal offenders. By tracking animal abusers they can track domestic abusers better, and other serious criminals.
And so there is a direct link between domestic abuse and animal cruelty. The evidence is crystal clear that the two are related.
